The Capitals may not have won the Stanley Cup in 2017, but TJ Oshie and Taylor Chorney are now champions of their respective summer league.
During Da Beauty League championship game Wednesday night, Oshie and Chorney’s Team RBC defeated Travis Boyd’s Team Velocity 4-2. Oshie, in his second Da Beauty League game, scored the game-winning goal. It was his second goal of the tournament.
Monday night, Capitals forward and Warroad, Minnesota-native TJ Oshie made his summer league debut in Da Beauty League.
Oshie paid instant dividends for Taylor Chorney’s Team RBC, scoring a goal and tallying a beautiful assist in the team’s 8-7 win. RBC will play Team Velocity in the championship game Wednesday.

This summer in Minnesota, several dozen NHL players are participating in an organized summer league called Da Beauty League.
Current and former Capitals Taylor Chorney, Nate Schmidt, Shane Gersich, Aaron Ness, Travis Boyd, and Matt Hendricks are dispersed amongst the league’s six teams which includes other NHL players and prospects.
While Chorney has lit up the scoreboard and Schmidt has played in his old Capitals gear, other familiar names have been having productive summers getting ready for the upcoming season.
On Tuesday, after former NHL All-Star Game MVP and Da Beauty League commissioner John Scott finally arrived, the league got everyone together for official team photos.
They are awesome.

Taylor Chorney may be a healthy scratch in Washington, but in Da Beauty League, he’s basically a Hockey Hall of Famer.
Chorney, a one-time John Scott Cup champion, is a point-per-game player in the popular Minnesota summer league, tallying seven points in his first four games. He currently sits 19th in league scoring, despite playing in one less game than most players ahead of him.
Monday night against Walser, Chorney scored a beautiful no-look five-hole goal, which gave RBC a 6-0 lead.
Over the summer, many NHL players participate in organized summer leagues to get one final tune-up before training camp. One of these leagues is called Da Beauty League. Formed in 2015, the league has six teams featuring NHL players and prospects including Dustin Byfuglien, Jake Guentzel, Anders Lee and the van Reimsdyk brothers.
The Capitals also have some familiar names participating this summer including Taylor Chorney, Shane Gersich, Travis Boyd, Aaron Ness, Matt Hendricks, and Nate Schmidt.

Wednesday night after the Caps clinched the number one seed in the playoffs, Nate Schmidt spoke with CSN Mid-Atlantic and explained the story behind his mohawk. It involves a hotel bathroom, a razor, a hockey superstar who has no training as a barber, and regret.
On Monday, the Capitals took to the ice at Kettler for their annual team photo. Everyone came out fresh, cleaned, and groomed for the photo, except for Justin Williams and Andre Burakovsky, who came out well poofed.

The Washington Capitals held a full-practice on Friday morning. It was obvious the team was still pumped up from their shoot out win against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night. Dmitry Orlov, who had the only regulation goal for the Capitals, was in especially high spirits, laughing and messing around with his teammates throughout the entire practice.
The team welcomed back Paul Carey, who earned a call up after a remarkable four-goal game the prior week with the Hershey Bears. Carey will stay with the team during the upcoming road trip as an additional forward.
Near the end of practice, Orlov took Tom Wilson down during a practice rush. The two slid along the ice as Orlov celebrated his accomplishment. Enjoy the photos!

The University of North Dakota, TJ Oshie and Taylor Chorney’s former college hockey team, took on Boston University, Kevin Shattenkirk’s former college team, today in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. BU defenseman and Boston Bruins prospect, Charlie McAvoy, scored in double overtime to end the game. This game is now the longest NCAA Tournament game in UND history.
Hours before the opening faceoff, TJ Oshie sent out a tweet cheering on his alma mater.

The Capitals Better Halves are auctioning off their annual gift baskets. The themed baskets include autographed items and jerseys from all your favorite Capitals players. The basket also includes items that highlight each player’s unique personality.
For the Winniks, their basket highlights the couple’s love of bulldogs and liquor. Taylor Winnik and her creative mind got alcohol from every country represented on the Capitals and then had the corresponding players sign the bottles.
So yes, there is a bottle of Russian Vodka, Stolichnaya, signed by Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, and Dmitry Orlov.
