9:20pm Update: According to Mike Vogel, Chorney went through the concussion protocol and was cleared to return. He was back on the bench for the third period.
Original story: Defenseman Taylor Chorney was forced to leave the Caps’ preseason game in Carolina during the second period after absorbing a rough run behind the net from Hurricanes forward Phillip Di Giuseppe.
Take a look. As Chorney goes to retrieve the puck, Di Giuseppe cleanly hits Chorney in the right shoulder. Chorney’s left shoulder gets plastered against the glass. The thud is loud.
Chorney immediately fell to the ice and writhed in pain. Braden Holtby skated over to console Chorns while he laid on the ice.
Chorney would skate off to the locker room under his own power.
