Former Capitals broadcaster Rob Carlin hosts Washington Nationals pre- and post-game shows for MASN

Rob Carlin made his return to television this weekend, albeit for a different DC team. With regular host Dan Kolko temporarily out, Carlin stepped in to host the Nationals’ pre- and post-game shows on MASN.

Carlin’s role was familiar for Caps fans, as he’d previously held a similar position with NBC Sports Washington. He hosted the Capitals’ pre- and post-game shows from 2017 to 2020, covering the team’s historic 2018 Stanley Cup win.

Mass layoffs at NBC Sports include local personalities Michael Jenkins and Rob Carlin

Bad news out of Bethesda.

Regional sports network NBC Sports Washington has reportedly laid off lots of on-air and off-air staff this week. Beloved long-time anchor Michael Jenkins was the first to break the news that he has been laid off on Monday. Later, fellow The Daily Line contributor Sara Perlman said her goodbyes.

By Wednesday night, we learned that longtime host Rob Carlin has also been dismissed.

How local broadcasters like Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin are calling Capitals’ playoff games from outside the bubble

The Washington Capitals’ first round-robin game of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs will be aired on NBC Sports Washington and Capitals Radio — like usual. But the coronavirus pandemic has changed practically everything else.

First off, none of the broadcasts will happen on location from inside the bubble. Descriptions and analysis will be coming from watching a live feed of the games from nearby monitors. There will be no crowds, only piped-in crowd noise.

Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin will call the game from NBC Sports Washington’s studio in Bethesda, Maryland. Rob Carlin will host the pre- and post-game shows from a different room at NBCSWSH headquarters, while Alan May provides color from inside his bedroom studio in Georgetown. May added it’s “where all of the magic happens,” which I think is in reference to his great analysis.

Alan May had the best celebration after Tom Wilson’s Game One overtime-winning goal

Former Capitals forward Alan May may be a media member now, but that doesn’t stop him from celebrating a Caps goal as if he were still in his playing days.

Thursday night, May had another raucous celly after Tom Wilson scored in the first overtime to give the Caps a sudden death victory in Game One.

Caps Media Clean Up at Local Emmys
