Even: Caps beat Pens 4-1 to tie the series!

Game Two was like Game One except better. Early lead? Sure. Make it grow? Lovely. But then the Caps got an extra goal, and even after the Pens got on the scoreboard it did not snowball. You could even argue that maybe, perhaps, just possibly, the Caps got the better whistles in this one. Either way: happy endings for everybody in red.

Alex Ovechkin opened it up after Patric Hornqvist fed him a perfect pass all the way from the other team. Jakub Vrana won a scramble low in the Pens zone to put the Caps up 2-0 heading into the second. Brett Connolly caught a stretch pass to make it 3-0. Kris Letang threaded the needle to snap the shutout during 4-on-4 play in the second period, and Backstrom added an empty netter late in the third. Goals only tell a fraction of this story, but it’s a good story in the end.

Caps beat Penguins 4-1! The series is tied 1-1!

Caps vs Penguins pregame: Hold it here (Game Two)

Okay, so, let’s try this again. The Pittsburgh Penguins are still in DC for Game Two against the Washington Capitals. In terms of what the Capitals will need to focus on to win this game? Getting to the finish line. That’s literally it. Holding a lead and closing out the game.

Despite being on the ice for practice in a full contact jersey, Evgeni Malkin will miss Game Two with a lower-body injury.

Though when has winning Game One ever really worked out for the Capitals? Exactly, so let’s keep our heads up, and let’s get this series really going.

Peter will have your recap after he goes to see a certain film. The puck will drop a tad after 3PM and you will need to flip your channels to NBC.

Killer comeback: numbers for the morning after

In an all too familiar fashion the Washington Capitals dropped Game One of their second round series to the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 at Capital One Arena. The Caps at one point held a two goal lead with 17 minutes left in regulation.

The Caps out-shot the Pens 34 to 25 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 64 to 46.

Classic Caps collapse: Penguins beat Caps 3-2

The Washington Capitals kicked off their second round series with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the best possible way …before an inevitable and foretold collapse in the third period cost them Game One.

It took all of 17 seconds for the Caps to strike: a ferocious drive by Kuznetsov after master-tier passes from Ovechkin and Wilson. The game did not settle after that, but the scoreboard got quiet until early in the third, when Wilson fed Ovechkin on a two-on-one to put the Caps up two goals. Take a deep breath there.

So. Patric Hornqvist and Sidney Crosby erased that lead with a tip-in and a one-timer before the period was six minutes old. The tie did not last long either. Jake Guentzel got a deflection off a Crosby dump-in that Holtby didn’t lock down properly. That was it.

Penguins beat Caps 3-2. Penguins lead the series 1-0.

Caps vs Penguins pregame: Let’s do this (Game One)

It’s happening again. The Washington Capitals and the Pittsburgh Penguins are facing off in round two of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

What are the things you need to know heading into Game One tonight? For the Capitals, Andre Burakovsky is still considered “week-to-week” after he recently had surgery to fix an upper-body injury. He hasn’t been completely ruled out for the series, but Young ‘Dre still needs rest. On the Penguins side, Carl Hagelin and Evgeni Malkin have both been ruled out for tonight. Coach Mike Sullivan confirmed them as “day-to-day”, with their respective injuries, after a brutal six-game series against the Philadelphia Flyers.

To be totally honest, I’m actually feeling very fine and I hope you are too. A tad nervous, but very excited. Cool as a cucumber. All of us. Let’s do this.

Here’s the full schedule of the Capitals and Penguins second round series

Wednesday night after the Bruins defeated the Maple Leafs, the NHL released the full schedule for Round Two.

We already knew that the Capitals will open the series Thursday night at Capital One Arena. Game Two will be played in Washington on Sunday before the series shifts to Pittsburgh.

Matt Murray played baseball during Penguins practice

The Pittsburgh Penguins have a special opportunity in this year’s postseason. The Penguins are trying to become the first NHL team in 35 years to three-peat. The early 80’s New York Islanders were the last club to accomplish the feat, winning four straight Cups from 1980-83.

If the players are feeling any pressure about that challenge, they’re not letting it show – even with the news of Evgeni Malkin and Carl Hagelin being out injured for Game One. During Wednesday’s practice, Penguins goaltender Matt Murray took time to work on his batting swing.

Prayer cards created at Pittsburgh funeral home for the death of the Flyers’ playoff dreams

Last night, the Philadelphia Flyers were kicked out of the 2017-18 playoffs after the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated them in heartbreaking fashion.

Naturally, both sides were extremely calm and congratulated each other on a rousing series! I’m just kidding.

Pittsburgh Penguins win Battle of Pennsylvania, will play winner of Capitals and Blue Jackets

Jake Guentzel scored four goals in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 8-5 thrashing of the Philadelphia Flyers, ending the first-round series in six games. The Penguins will face the eventual winner of the series between the Washington Capitals and Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Flyers blew a two-goal lead in Game Six, then Pittsburgh forward Guentzel reached power level over nine thousand in the final frame to secure victory. Sean Couturier also recored a hat trick for the Flyers.
