Nicklas Backstrom, Tom Wilson, and Braden Holtby deliver laptops to students at Hendley Elementary (Photos)

It’s not every day that the students of Hendley Elementary have John Walton, voice of Capitals Radio Network, emceeing their class assembly.

Walton was on site at the Southeast DC school to introduce three special guests from the Washington Capitals: Nicklas Backstrom, Braden Holtby, and Tom Wilson, who delivered 75 laptops and 45 tablets as ambassadors for the So Kids Can charity.

“DC’s always embraced us, we’ve got amazing fans, an amazing support system. It’s fun to get back into the city, help out, have fun with the kids and that’s what it’s all about,” said Wilson in an interview with Fox 5 DC. “It’s definitely home to us now.”

The Boys Are Back in Town: Photos From the First Day of Caps Training Camp

One hundred sixty days after the Washington Capitals missed the playoffs for the first time since 2007, 66 players took to the ice in Arlington, Virginia looking to atone for a lost season. New head coach Barry Trotz put his players through a 45-minute practice and then a rigorous skate test, which left many exhausted, including Alex Ovechkin. This year’s training camp is supposed to be a hard one, part of Trotz’s plan to transform this team from an also-ran into a real success. The Caps have just two days of training camp to get their legs under them before the preseason opens on Sunday.
