Alex Ovechkin injured Erik Cernak and Mikhail Sergachev with one-timers on the same power play: ‘It takes guts to stand in front of those’

Alex Ovechkin is the NHL’s all-time leader in power-play goals with 290. To get to that record, Ovechkin developed one of the most powerful one-timers in league history from the left circle – a ramping, heavy shot that sometimes has an unpredictable destination.

On Friday against the Lightning, Ovechkin fired 10 shot attempts at Andrei Vasilevskiy during his 11:25 of power-play ice time.

It was his shot attempts at the very end of the third period that could have ramifications for the Lightning.

Alex Killorn creates incredible video with Lightning teammates celebrating moment NHL allows players to skate again

Alex Killorn is going viral on Hockey Twitter for a video he published on his Twitter and YouTube accounts.

Set to the Boys Are Back In Town by Thin Lizzy, Killorn finds his teammates doing odd jobs around Tampa Bay.

“The moment @NHL says you can skate again! #boltsflytogether #directorialdebut #breakoutinfluenceroftheyear,” Killorn tweeted.

Evgeni Malkin teases Dmitry Orlov in Russian language Zoom call

The NHL hosted a Russian language Zoom call between Evgeni Malkin, Dmitry Orlov, and Tampa Bay’s Mikhail Sergachev on Wednesday.

The call was basically The Evgeni Malkin Comedy Hour as Malkin constantly needled his comrades on the Russian National Team who are also his foes in the National Hockey League.

During one particularly humorous snippet of the call, the interviewer reminded the three players that they all are on Eastern Conference teams and face each other a lot. What do you miss the least about facing each other the interviewer asked.

Mikhail Sergachev misses most of first period after big hit from Tom Wilson

Tom Wilson is one of the most physical players in the NHL and he made his presence felt immediately in the first period against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Wilson leveled Mikhail Sergachev with a clean shoulder-to-shoulder hit into the glass. Sergachev would need help getting off the ice and would miss the rest of the first period.

Tampa trades star forward Jonathan Drouin to Montreal for expansion draft relief

A day after the Capitals acquired Tyler Graovac for expansion draft flexibility, a major trade went down between the Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Canadiens acquired talented scoring forward Jonathan Drouin and conditional 2018 second and sixth-round picks in exchange for prospect defenseman Mikhail Sergachev and a conditional 2018 second-round pick.
