Barack Obama congratulates Mystics on championship: ‘If folks aren’t careful, this title thing might become a habit in DC’

Former President Barack Obama took to Twitter on Friday morning to congratulate the Washington Mystics on their first WNBA championship.

The Mystics defeated the Connecticut Sun 89-78 at Entertainment & Sports Arena to become Ted Leonsis’s third team over the last two years to win a championship.

44 alluded to that championship pedigree in his tweet.

Alex Ovechkin sits courtside as the Wizards take on LeBron James and the Lakers

Sunday night’s game between the Wizards and the Lakers featured some superstar talent, both on the court and sitting courtside at Capital One Arena.

Alex Ovechkin and wife Nastya Ovechkina had prime seats next to the Wizards bench as the hometown team faced off against LeBron James and the Lakers. The Ovechkins were joined by several friends. Zach Leonsis, son of Ted, also sat with the group.

The couple had seats so good that they were practically in the Wizards’ huddle during breaks in play.

David Steckel and Mike Knuble at Skins Cowboys Game

Mega-sports-celebrities LeBron James and Dale Earnhardt Jr. were at the Redskins Cowboys game tonight. One rooted for the good guys and one rooted for the bad guys. That’s cool and all, but we here at RMNB don’t give a crap about them. (Though Dale Jr. was awesome in that one Three Doors Down video.) What we care about are guys with character. Guys who will take out my trash if I need them too. Guys who will awkwardly attempt 70 yard field goals with pucks on a wooden platform while in really tight polo shirts. So when we saw that Stecks and Kanoobs were hanging out at tonight’s Skins game via a Ross Hollebon photo, we had to put it up.

Eric Fehr is re-signed by the Caps to a two year deal.

Who needs ESPN? The signing of right wing Eric Fehr to a two-year contract, reported to be worth $2.2 million per year, was brought to us the old-fashioned way: via Twitter, from Uno Seis himself while he summers at his cabin in Winkler, Manitoba. Take that Greenwich!

We know what you’re thinking: Do a joint “Two More Years” celebratory party at Front Page on July 31st! We would, but sadly Fehr intends to spend the rest of the summer in Manitoba before returning to D.C.
