Joe Beninati’s kind words for Dave Strader

During the second intermission of Hockey Fights Cancer Night, Caps TV announcers Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin said who they fought for.

“My mom and my dad and Courtney Druce,” Laughlin said. “And I’m fighting for everybody out there. It’s something that we’ve got to be aware of. It’s great awareness tonight and we should fight for everyone who gets this disease.”

Joe B took a moment to share some warm wishes for Dallas Stars play-by-play man Dave Strader. In June, Strader — one of the most talented broadcasters in the league — was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer in his bile duct. He was forced to take a leave of absence from the team.

Joe Beninati’s poignant commentary during Nebraska’s missing-man tribute for Sam Foltz

In late July, University of Nebraska punter Sam Foltz and former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler were killed in a car wreck while returning from a kicking camp in Wisconsin. The sheriff’s department said the car, driven by Sadler, lost control on the wet pavement and struck a tree.

Saturday night, the Nebraska football team played their first game of the season against Fresno State and honored Foltz during their first punt. The special team unit lined up in a missing-man formation, bringing out 10 players and leaving the area where the punter would be blank. Everyone in Memorial Stadium rose to their feet and cheered loudly.

CSN Mid-Atlantic’s Joe Beninati was doing the play-by-play of the game tonight for BTN. He captured the moment beautifully.

Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin Win Emmy Awards For Their Caps Coverage

Saturday night, the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter held their 58th annual Emmy Awards at the Baltimore Marriott and several big names in the Caps media brought home some hardware.

CSN Mid-Atlantic’s Joe Beninati, who has been calling Capitals games on TV since 1994, brought home two Emmys. First, Beninati was named this area’s best sports play-by-play man.

Joe Beninati’s ‘Star Wars’ Cold Open (Video)

On Thursday, Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens was released in theaters nationwide. To celebrate, CSN Washington’s Joe Beninati penned a brilliant cold open before Friday’s Caps/Lightning game. It’s almost as good as the Caps Super Friends bit he did in 2010, but please note: nothing will ever top that.

Joe Beninati’s Final Suit of the Night This Season (Photo)

Regardless of tonight’s outcome, this will be the final game CSN Washington covers this postseason. Therefore, this is the final Joe B Suit of the Night.

In case you’re wondering, Beninati brought out his A game for the telecast. He wore a handsome navy suit with a red tie, white pocket square, and a vertically striped blue dress shirt. Check out all of Joe B’s suits this season.

The Caps’ Video For Bensten Is Powerful Stuff

I hate feeling my own feels. The Caps just turned my insides to mush with this two-minute video dedicated to Bensten “Bman” Schone. As you’ll recall, Bensten is the six-year-old Caps fan who was struck by a car after accidentally sledding into the road. He’s been slowly recovering from a brain injury ever since.

With the Caps/Flyers game on national TV tonight, we were denied the calls of the DC Sportscaster of the Year Joe Beninati and his loyal sidekick Craig Laughlin. That also means no Joe B suit of the night.

Joe Beninati Named D.C. Sportscaster of the Year

Many Caps fans watching television have known just one man as the voice of the team: Joe Beninati. Over the past decade, Beninati has won countless Emmys for his play-by-play of hockey games. On Friday, he received an even higher honor. Beninati was named D.C. Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.
