After scoring an empty-net goal to seal the win for the Capitals on Thursday night, Lars Eller missed practice Friday to tend to an upper-body injury.
It’s the second maintenance day Eller’s needed this week.

This just in. The Washington Capitals will likely be without Michal Kempny during their 2019 playoff run after the defenseman underwent surgery for a torn left hamstring. According to the Caps, Kempny will be out for the next four to six months. His current timeline will keep him out until July at the earliest.
The Capitals announced the news at 3 pm, shortly after news of Ernie Grunfeld’s dismissal was first reported.

Tamba Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman collided with fellow Swede Carl Hagelin during Saturday night’s game against the Capitals. With nine seconds to go in the first period Hedman attempted to check Hagelin into the boards and his face made contact with Hagelin’s helmet.
Hedman appeared to recover and skated until the buzzer but did not return for the rest of the game.
Tampa head coach Jon Cooper told the media after the game that Hedman “got hit in a tough fashion” and would be re-evaluated. He did not rule out a concussion.

Right winger Brett Connolly will miss Saturday night’s match-up against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He is the fourth Capitals player to miss playing time due to illness recently after Carl Hagelin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, and TJ Oshie.
Connolly missed the morning skate and head coach Todd Reirden said he would be a game-time decision.

TJ Oshie, the Washington Capitals second leading goalscorer (23g), will miss tonight’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes due to an illness. Oshie also missed the team’s morning skate.
The Capitals PR announced the news during warmups.
Washington Capitals head coach Todd Reirden confirmed our worst worries after the team’s morning skate. Reirden told reporters that the Caps will have to go without defenseman Michal Kempny “for an indefinite amount of time right now.”
Kempny was injured in an awkward tangle-up with Tampa Bay’s Cedric Paquette. Kempny needed help getting off the ice and after the game Head Coach Todd Reirden said, “it’s safe to say he’s going to miss some time.”
Reirden did not give a timeline on Kempny’s expected recovery and said tests are still being run on his injured leg.

Capitals defenseman Michal Kempny left Wednesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning after being dragged awkwardly down to the ice by Cedric Paquette.
Kempny struggled to get over the Capitals bench, and appeared to not put any pressure on his left leg. The Capitals called the injury “lower body” in nature and said Kempny would not return.
After the game, Capitals head coach Todd Reirden gave an update and did not sound particularly optimistic.

The Caps-Bolts rematch on Wednesday has been a busy affair. The second period saw six goals in 15 minutes, but after that is when stuff really went down.
As Cedric Paquette took Michal Kempny down to the ice, injuring the Capitals defenseman’s leg, Jakub Vrana got in his first career NHL fight with Yanni Gourde.
Kempny looks real bad.

Capitals 2018 first-round pick Alex Alexeyev was recently photographed walking again after suffering a scary knee-on-knee collision March 8 that necessitated him being carted off on a stretcher.
Alexeyev was honored before puck drop on Tuesday as the Red Deer Advocate’s Male Athlete of the Year. Alexeyev was wearing a knee brace as he accepted the award.
The Red Deer Rebels have listed Alexeyev’s condition as a “week-to-week” lower-body injury on WHL’s weekly report.

Tom Wilson is one of the most physical players in the NHL and he made his presence felt immediately in the first period against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Wilson leveled Mikhail Sergachev with a clean shoulder-to-shoulder hit into the glass. Sergachev would need help getting off the ice and would miss the rest of the first period.
