The Capitals had plenty to celebrate with their overtime victory over the Carolina Hurricanes–and celebrate they did. After Brooks Orpik netted the game-winner he was mobbed by the entirety of his team.

The Capitals are finally back from the bye week! The All-Star game was much less fun without Alex Ovechkin’s ebullient energy, but he got to rest, swim with dolphins, and spend time with his family. Because that’s punishable by suspension he was not available for Friday night’s game against the Calgary Flames.
So the Washington Capitals played a hockey game without Alex Ovechkin for the first time ever in franchise history and, somehow, won. Two newbies got good hugs, Tom Wilson stepped up in Ovechkin’s absence and became the team’s spiritual and physical hug leader, Kuzy did the Kuzy thing, and Braden Holtby FINALLY GOT THE GOOD GOALIE HEADBOPS HE DESERVES.

The Washington Capitals played the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night in Capital One Arena and lost 7-6 in truly sensational fashion. However! Alex Ovechkin scored a hat trick, and Evgeny Kuznetsov, TJ Oshie, and Andre Burakovsky each netted goals of their own.
In other words: There were very many very good hugs.

During the Leafs’ 6-2 shellacking of the Caps Saturday, Alex Ovechkin and Leo Komarov were at each other’s throats. Late in the third period, the Russian machine appeared to finally exact some revenge.
