After going on waivers twice and having a two-game stint with the Edmonton Oilers, Nathan Walker officially returned to the Hershey Bears Friday and his teammates were very, very excited to see him.
Chris Bourque, who is days away from being named to Team USA’s 2018 Winter Olympics team, greeted Walker with a huge, body-enveloping hug as the Australian jumped on the ice for the team’s morning skate.
After the NHL announced they would not participate in the 2018 Olympics, the American Hockey League announced that players on AHL-only contracts would be allowed to participate in the games held in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
According to NHL writer John Hoven, longtime Hershey Bears forward and AHL legend Chris Bourque has made the 2018 squad and will be competing for Team USA.

One of the best parts of any hockey game is arguably when local youth hockey players are brought onto the ice to play a short game during intermission. Similarly to the Caps’ Mites on Ice, the Hershey Bears brought kids out to play after the first period of the team’s game against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Sunday night.
One of the kids to take the ice was Kingston Bourque, son of the Bears alternate captain Chris Bourque. Proud to see his son following in his footsteps, Bourque did not join his team in the locker room and stayed out by the ice to watch Kingston play. After the youth game, Papa Bourque skated out to greet Lil Bourque.

On Sunday, December 3, the Hershey Bears held their annual teddy bear toss game at the Giant Center.
Fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears to the game and throw them on the ice immediately after the home team scores its first goal. The stuffed animals are then donated to hospitals and local charities during the holidays.
Hershey’s teddy bear toss was initiated by a goal from Liam O’Brien in the second period. While there is nothing better than getting plunked in the head with a pink teddy bear during a goal celebration, the photos of Lucas Johansen and Mason Mitchell being swallowed whole by mountain of stuffed animals is a close second.

Chris Borque is staying in the Washington Capitals organization for another year. Or maybe two!
The future AHL Hall of Fame forward re-upped with the Bears for the 2017-18 season. The deal includes a mutual option for the 2018-19 season.
The Hershey Bears made their moms proud this Mother’s Day, winning 3-2 in OT of Game Five against the Providence Bruins. Madison Bowey scored the OTGWG less than two minutes into the extra period.
Chris Bourque opened up the scoring for the Bears with 8:48 left in the first period, tipping in a shot from defenseman Tyler Lewington to put Hershey up 1-0.

Are you still crying over the Caps’ elimination last night? I am. Since we all need something to cheer us up a bit, here’s some good news: the Hershey Bears won 2-1 in overtime against the Providence Bruins Thursday, securing them a 2-1 series lead in the second round of Calder Cup playoffs.

After falling 3-1 to the Providence Bruins on Saturday night, the Hershey Bears seem to have found their groove again. The team won in overtime tonight after a thrilling game-winning goal from Travis Boyd, tying the Atlantic Division Finals series 1-1.

Future AHL Hall of Famer Chris Bourque had quite a performance tonight.
With Hershey trailing Lehigh Valley 4-2 headed into the third period, the 31-year-old forward scored twice, including the game-wining goal with 33 seconds remaining, to give the Bears a huge 5-4 victory. After gathering in a pass from Christian Djoos, Bourque skated into the offensive zone and blasted a slap shot past goaltender Martin Ouellette.
Hershey still managed to win despite being outshot 34-17. The Bears will now try to complete the sweep of Lehigh Valley on Wednesday at GIANT Center.
During the Hershey Bears’ Wednesday practice at Giant Center, the team engaged in a split-squad shootout. Normally a drill like this is run of the mill, but for the Bears it got really, really competitive.
