TJ Oshie Fights Brayden Schenn 10 Seconds into Game Five

The Capitals were not happy with Brayden Schenn after his dangerous cross-check to the leg of Evgeny Kuznetsov during Game Four. Tom Wilson called the play “cheap.” Schenn, who’s delivered borderline hits all series long, admitted it was dumb.

“All I’m going to say about that is it was a pretty dumb play by me,” Schenn said to The Washington Post’s Mark Giannotto during the Flyers morning skate. “There’s no reason for that, and I’ll leave it at that.”

Friday night, TJ Oshie dropped gloves with Schenn right after the opening face-off, as if to say his team would not put up with that ish.

Back in D.C. for Game Five and another chance to book a ticket to the 2nd round, where the Caps would likely meet up with the Pittsburgh Penguins in a series that shouldn’t have happened until the Conference Finals, but the NHL has a stupid playoff set up. As you can tell, I am annoyed by this. However, the Caps cannot be like me and overlook Philadelphia tonight as we know the Caps tend to struggle when they’re up 3-1 in a series.

Michal Neuvirth is back in the cage for the Flyers, Brooks Orpik is still out and the French dude that boarded Orlov is back for Scott Laughton who did not travel with the team after this scary collision with the boards.

We Made a T-Shirt Honoring Philadelphia Sports Fans Who Throw Things

The city of brotherly love, Philadelphia, has a history of less-than-brotherly behavior when it comes to sports.

Most recently, we’ve seen Philadelphia fans pelt athletes with plastic bracelets after a scary near-injury, but there have also been snowball-struck Santas, Michael Irving lying on the field with a career-ending injury while Eagles fans boo, and the constant threat of ballistic weaponized batteries.

Caps vs Flyers Pregame: Take Two

The Caps return to Washington tonight in hopes of finally closing out this series. After failing to eliminate the Flyers in Game Four, the Caps have one mission: end it. End it now.

I’m not particularly picky about how the Caps win; I’d just like to see them lock this series up already. Alas, it would be nice to see some of that mythical even-strength scoring, the kind that’s been nearly nonexistent for the past four games.

Will they or won’t they? Tune into CSN-DC at 7 PM to find out.

Tom Wilson Would Like to ‘Send [Flyers] Packing’ After ‘Cheap’ Cross-Check By Brayden Schenn

Wednesday night during Game Four, Brayden Schenn got dangerous again. The Flyers forward cross-checked Evgeny Kuznetsov in the leg while the Caps’ leading scorer had his back turned. The play went unpenalized, but Schenn’s attempt to injure did not go unnoticed by several Caps.

Speaking to the press during the team’s off day, checking-line forward Tom Wilson shared his disgust.

The NHL Should Review Brayden Schenn’s Cross-Check to Evgeny Kuznetsov’s Knee

Flyers forward Brayden Schenn had already delivered a series full of questionable hits. During Game Four, Schenn stepped his troll game up another notch, using his stick as a weapon.

The hubbub occurred late in the second period. Second line forward Justin Williams centered a pass to Evgeny Kuznetsov in front of the net. Kuznetsov took a few whacks at the puck in the crease before Michal Neuvirth froze the puck. That’s when Schenn arrived on the scene to deliver a cross-check after the whistle.

It was a dangerous play.

The Capitals Didn’t Lose, Fanatics Jinxed Them

The Washington Capitals, who have dominated the Flyers on special teams all series long, had a slow start to Game Four and could never recover. Forced to play most of the night at even strength, the Caps couldn’t generate much offense until the third period. At that point it was too late.

That’s one way to look at tonight’s game. The other? Fanatics, an official partner of the NHL, hexed the Caps.

Tom Wilson Was Checked in the Head by Brandon Manning

Late in the third period, Capitals forward Tom Wilson got checked in the head by Flyers defenseman Brandon Manning. As Wilson turned back to retrieve a Jason Chimera pass in the offensive zone, Manning hit Wilson in the head and shoulder with his left arm.

Bringing It All Back Home: Flyers beat Caps 2-1

You didn’t think it was gonna be that easy, did you? Without special teams dominance and a convincing performance at even strength, the Washington Capitals dropped Game Four to the Flyers. It’s just prolonging the suffering is what it is.

Shayne Gostisbehere, the Ghost Bear, got his first playoff goal with a blue-line slapper in the first period, deflected off Karl Alzner up front. The Flyers made it 2-0 in the second period with a goal by — I’m not making this up — Andrew MacDonald.

The Caps finally got something going early in the third, with TJ Oshie putting a backhand tuck past Philly goalie Michal Neuvirth. What followed was a barrage of Caps offense, but no goals.

Flyers beat Caps 2-1. Caps still lead the series 3-1.
