Hershey Bears make heroic late comeback but fall in overtime of first-round elimination game

The Hershey Bears squared off with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Monday night in the third and decisive game of their first-round series in this year’s Calder Cup Playoffs. The Bears forced the Game Three with a 2-1 victory on Sunday night.

With just barely over 90 seconds remaining in regulation the Bears found themselves in a two-goal hole. And then something amazing happened.

Hershey Bears miss playoffs for 13th time in 80-year history

A rough season up in Chocolatetown just gained some finality to it.

With a 4-2 loss to the Hartford Wolf Pack Sunday, the Hershey Bears were eliminated from AHL postseason contention with eight games left in the regular season. This marks the first time since 2013-2014 and just the 13th time in their 80 years that the Bears will not be taking part in the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Nathan Walker’s Game One OTGWG gives Hershey Bears 1-0 series lead over Lehigh Valley

While the Capitals were fighting for a series lead against the Leafs, the Hershey Bears were starting their 2017 playoff run Friday night at PPL Center.

After three periods ended without a mark on the board for either the Bears or their opponents, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, left wing Aussie Nathan Walker broke through 7:38 minutes into overtime to give the Bears a 1-0 series lead in their first round series.

The Hershey Bears have clinched a spot in the Calder Cup Playoffs

The Hershey Bears took down their fellow Pennsylvanians and fierce rival, the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins 2-1 Friday night. They have now clinched a Calder Cup Playoff spot for the third season in a row under head coach Troy Mann.

The Bears return to the postseason just one year removed from a run that took them all the way to the Finals. They were swept by a Lake Erie Monsters team that only lost two games the entire playoffs.

The team needed four straight wins and some help elsewhere in the AHL to get in this year.
