Report: NHL DoPS passes on giving Brock McGinn supplemental discipline for head hit on Martin Fehervary

During Friday’s Capitals-Penguins game, Brock McGinn escaped getting a minor penalty for his head hit on Martin Fehervary that knocked the Caps’ first-pairing defenseman out of the game. The Capitals say Fehervary suffered an upper-body injury on the play.

Now we’ve learned McGinn will not receive any supplemental discipline from the NHL’s Department of Player Safety either via a report by the Washington Post’s Samantha Pell.

The final preseason game for the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes had playoff intensity. And here’s the moment where things officially went off the rails.

Five minutes and twenty-eight seconds into the second period, the Hurricanes’ leveled Capitals players with two bad hits. Teuvo Teravainen nailed Garnet Hathaway, who was nowhere near the puck, and received an interference penalty. Seconds later, Brock McGinn hit Mike Sgarbossa in the head, sending the Hershey Bears’ leading scorer last season tumbling to the ice with his hands covering his face.
