Alex Ovechkin plays in charity basketball game to help raise money for the Kirilenko Fund

Alex Ovechkin continued his busy summer on Thursday with a charity basketball game. He and other professional Russian athletes participated to raise money for the Kirilenko Fund, which supports children in need, including funding for orphanages, hospitals, and sports facilities. The fund is named after Ovechkin’s friend Andrei Kirilenko, a retired basketball player and the current commissioner of the Russian Basketball Federation.

Ovechkin has played in charity basketball games before. In 2016, it was for a team coached by his mother Tatyana. Ovechkin wears number 8 because of her. She won two Olympic golds with the Russian women’s basketball team, one world championship, and six European championships.

Although her son mostly displays his athletic skills on the ice, he’s not so bad on the court.

Alex Ovechkin attends Team Russia basketball game before heading to China

Alex Ovechkin will be spending the next week in China as an ambassador for the NHL, but before he hopped on a plane, he jumped into a courtside seat at the Alexander Gomelsky Universal Sports Hall located in Moscow.

Ovechkin was in attendance to support his close friend Vitaliy Fridzon, the captain of Russia’s national basketball team, during Russia’s 111-71 beatdown of Jordan.

While there, Ovi fed a small child candy who was sitting across from him. Ovechkin’s personal trainer Pavel was also in attendance and sat in the row behind his client.

Alex Ovechkin Coached By Mother Tatyana Ovechkina in Charity Basketball Game

Over the weekend, Alex Ovechkin brought his sick handles and gold number 8 necklace to the basketball court for a good cause. The Russian machine participated in the Step Forward Foundation’s charity basketball game for the second year in a row to help raise money for kids with cerebral palsy. The game was held at Moscow’s Dynamo Palace of Sports.

Ovechkin captained the green team, which was named “Together We Are Brighter” and coached by two-time Olympic gold medalist and his mother, Tatyana Ovechkina.

The First Time I’ve Ever Seen Alex Ovechkin Dive (GIF)

This weekend, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin flew to France to enjoy the lovely beaches of St. Tropez. On what he described as his vacation, Ovechkin hung out with former KHL player (CSKA) Ruben Begunts and Brooklyn Nets small forward Andrei Kirilenko (Maria’s cousin).

And for the first time ever, I saw Ovechkin dive.
