Connor McDavid wore a shoelace-belt to the NHL Awards. Here’s why you shouldn’t chirp him about it.

No, seriously. Stop chirping Connor McDavid about his fashion choices. Yes, he wore a suit to the NHL Awards and looked like he used a skate lace as a belt and tied it with a big floppy bow. And yes, his skinny tie looks like it may, in fact, be a belt. It quickly went viral on Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit.

Maybe McDavid is trolling all of us with his tied-belt and belt-tie. Maybe he’s just having fun with his fashion. Either way: that’s okay.

Alex Ovechkin and John Carlson named to NHL’s end-of-season All-Star Teams

Alex Ovechkin actually netted two honors from the NHL on Wednesday night.

Not only did Ovechkin win his eighth Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy for leading the NHL goals, but he was also named to the NHL’s end-of-season First All-Star Team. The Capitals’ John Carlson, who finished fourth among defensemen in league scoring, was named to the NHL’s Second All-Star Team.

Andrei Vasilevskiy did not enjoy Kenan Thompson’s savage playoff joke

SNL cast member Kenan Thompson hosted the NHL Awards and he did a tremendous job.

His best moment was arguably when he roasted the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Barry Trotz wins second Jack Adams Award

Former Capitals head coach Barry Trotz was given the Jack Adams award Wednesday night in Las Vegas. The Jack Adams goes to the coach who was “judged to have contributed the most to his team’s success” as voted by the NHL Broadcasters’ Association.

After coaching the Capitals to a Stanley Cup in 2018, Trotz took over the helm with the New York Islanders and led them to the postseason after losing John Tavares during free agency.

Trotz has been a finalist four times with his first win coming with the Capitals in 2016.

Carey Price made everyone cry with this beautiful moment at the NHL Awards

Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price didn’t come onstage to accept an award at the 2019 NHL awards, but he deserves all the accolades for what he did.

In February, Price met a young fan named Anderson Whitehead who was waiting in the stands after practice. Anderson had recently lost his mother to cancer, and Price embraced him and gave him signed equipment. The video quickly went viral.

Anderson came out onstage at the awards, and Price was onscreen in what appeared to be a prerecorded message. A moment later Price waved away the camera and came out onstage for a touching, tearful reunion.

John Carlson finishes fourth in Norris Trophy voting

After a strong 2018-19 season, Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson finished fourth in Norris Trophy voting. The news was made public in an NHL release during the league’s award show in Las Vegas.

35-year-old Mark Giordano of the Calgary Flames won the Norris after receiving 165 of 171 first-place votes. Brent Burns and Victor Hedman were the runner ups.

But the story for Capitals fans is just how close Carlson was to becoming a Norris Trophy finalist for the first time in his career.

The Washington Capitals’ most memorable moments from the NHL Awards

The 2019 NHL Awards are in Las Vegas on Wednesday, and sadly it does not appear there will be any Washington Capitals at the awards. Team captain Alex Ovechkin, who has won his record-breaking eighth Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy appears to still be on vacation in Turkey with his family.
