Jay Beagle Ties Career High in Goals With Highlight Reel Tally (GIF)

You guys, I’ve got some incredible news to share. Jay Beagle has played only 21 games this season, but tonight he tied his career high in goals with four. He’s also more than halfway to his career season high of 9 points, which he set last season.

The (un)dynamic fourth-line winger has scored two goals in his last two games. He also did this a few weeks ago. Suffice it to say: Beagle’s playing unleashed. Let’s throw him a bone (wink) and take a look at his latest goal.

Braden Holtby Shoots at Empty Net, Tries to Score Goal Again (GIF)

As a kid, Braden Holtby played forward before turning into a goaltender full-time as a teenager. That’s where Holtby gets his strong stickhandling ability from and that’s why, dammit, he’s going to score a goal someday.

Saturday night against the Devils, Holtby– after making 33 saves and playing generally amazing– decided to take a pot shot at New Jersey’s empty net with the Caps clinging to a two-goal lead.

Stick Em in a Two-Goal Hole +1: Caps beat Devils 4-1

Secondary scoring lifted the Capitals to a big divisional road win. With Beagle, Alzner, and Kuznetsov hitting twine, the Capitals were able to fell the New Jersey Devils in a taut, kinda fun game (for the Devs) on a Saturday night.

Karl Alzner, yes, Karl Alzner, scored first, cleaning up off the cycle. Patrik Elias got one for the Devils, tapping in Danius Zubrus’ airborne puck. In the second, Jay Beagle scored a highlight-reel backhand goal to put the Caps up, which Evgeny Kuznetsov added to with a snipe on the power play.

The Devils never climbed out of that two-goal hole. Laich made it three with a lay up in the final minute.

Caps beat Devils 4-1.

Evgeny Kuznetsov Scores on the Power Play With a Sick Snipe, Top Shelf (GIF)

After getting scratched for the second time this season against Carolina on Thursday, Evgeny Kuznetsov was returned into the line-up by Barry Trotz for Saturday’s game against the New Jersey Devils. It paid immediate dividends. Kuznetsov brought an aggressive offensive edge to his game that we haven’t seen all year, shooting the puck nearly every time he touched it.

In the second period, Kuznetsov’s prolificness paid off, scoring on a sick snipe top shelf on the power play.

Braden Holtby’s Son Benjamin Imitates Dad During Game, Pours Water on His Head

Midway through the first period, Braden Holtby‘s wife Brandi tweeted out something adorable. As CSN cut to her husband squirting water into his hair during a stoppage in play, the couple’s two-year-old son Benjamin– who recently learned to skate— did the same at home.

Caps Team Build, Jenga-Style

Recently, Washington Capitals head coach Barry Trotz broke up the highly-successful “twins” duo of Joel Ward and Jason Chimera. Now, Ward is playing on the third line with Brooks Laich and Eric Fehr. Building good chemistry takes a lot of practice on the ice. But off of it, it appears Trotz is taking team building literally.

After practice, Ward, Laich, and Fehr were stacked on a cart like Lincoln logs and pushed back to the locker room.

Caps at Devils Pregame: Jagr or No Jagr?

The Capitals won a tight, not particularly convincing road game on Thursday night. Tonight at 7 PM, the team continues its road trip with hopes of defeating the New Jersey Devils.

The Devils are a stingy team, best at suppressing shot attempts in both directions, so maybe practice your knitting during this one. It’s on CSN.
