The Washington Capitals continued their trek through this seemingly never ending road trip by downing the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2, bringing their recent traveling record to that same scoreline. They’ll look to finish this thing off with a bang in Buffalo on Saturday.
The Leafs out-shot the Caps 42 to 28.

League-leading goalscorer Alex Ovechkin scored again Thursday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The goal marked Ovechkin’s 650th career goal, pulling him within six of tying 13th place Brendan Shanahan, the Leafs president.
The Capitals were victorious north, this evening, while facing off against the Toronto Maple Leafs. A win on the road feels very, very good. A quick first period resulted in no goals for either side. It was one of those periods where you felt like you were watching an exciting tennis match. Great chances on both ends going back and forth with high speed and tough action. Braden Holtby looked like a gosh darn brick wall.
Scoring began in period two when Alex Ovechkin nailed a power play goal home behind Leafs goaltender Frederik Andersen. This was his 43rd of the season. Brett Connolly scored a goal to bring the Capitals up one more after a layup from Tom Wilson. This was Connolly’s 15th goal, tying his career high.
The third period scoring began almost five minutes in with a wraparound and rebound from Andreas Johnsson. But, Johnsson taketh away for the Maple Leafs because Tom Wilson would blow right by him for a perfect short-handed goal.

Caps fans’ sign game remains on point and Thursday, in Toronto, one Canadian Caps fan went to the next level to salute Evgeny Kuznetsov.
Using slits in the back of their posterboard, the fan gave Paper Kuzy flappable arms to emulate the star center’s world-famous celebration.

Still on the road? You betcha! This time, the Capitals are taking a pit stop in Toronto to face off against the Nazem Kadri-less Maple Leafs. The Leafs are without Kadri after he was diagnosed with a concussion on Tuesday. Hopefully the Caps can grab another road victory as their longest road trip of the season begins to wind down.
