Needing two points to keep pace with their rival Pittsburgh Penguins atop the Metropolitan Division and after taking a 7-1 beatdown at the hands of the Chicago Blackhawks, the Washington Capitals took down the Buffalo Sabres 3-2. Pause the riots temporarily.
The Sabres out-shot the Caps 34 to 30, but the Caps took the edge in five-on-five shot attempts 52 to 47.

It’s pretty safe to say that the Capitals did not play well in Chicago against the Blackhawks on Saturday Night. Their next test was the Buffalo Sabres in wintery western New York. A battle between a beast of the east and well… the Buffalo Sabres.
Nothing for ya through twenty minutes but some good goaltending from Philipp Grubauer and Chad Johnson.
Alex Ovechkin opened the scoring as his chase for goal #600 continues. John Carlson squeaked one home to double the advantage.
Kyle Okposo scored late to make the ending of this one interesting. Kuznetsov empty netter. Evander Kane garbage time goal.

The Capitals want to immediately throw away their effort, or lack thereof, against the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night. Lets hope they don’t completely throw it away because they need to remember not to play like that ever again. Will they be able to bounce back against the basement dwelling Sabres?
It’s an early one. Tune into NBCSWA at 3 PM. I’ll have your recap.
