Injured Andre Burakovsky watched the Caps from home, ‘already missing the game’

On his 22nd birthday, Andre Burakovsky got the very worst present of all: a broken hand. After the Burracuda went down to one knee to block a Brendan Smith shot from the point, he was struck in the right hand by the puck.

Since then Yung Dre has been sidelined from NHL action. On Saturday while his teammates were in Detroit, Burakovsky appears to have reamined home at his apartment, missing his second-straight game.

Brooks Orpik pummels a taunting Steve Ott during Caps’ hockey fight of the year (Video)

Washington Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik doesn’t fight much, but when he does, his opponent’s face will be vigorously punched.

During a Saturday matinee with the Detroit Red Wings, Orpik pounded notorious pest Steve Ott in a third-period bout which inspired shouts from Caps’ play-by-play man Joe Beninati. The fight lasted 32 seconds and featured 14 landed punches by Orpik to 1 by Ott.

A farewell to the Joe: Red Wings beat Caps 3-2

Caps hockey is back. The boys started the back end of the regular season off in Detroit for the last Capitals-Wings match up in Joe Louis Arena. The bye week rust was on display and I’m pretty sure the entire team was playing sunburned.

The first was not a great period for the team in white. No real sustained offensive zone pressure and a misfire on the man advantage. Danish forward Frans Nielsen put the Red Wings up 1-0 on Detroit’s lone power play of the period. McGriddles fans everywhere wept.

Tomas Tatar capitalized on a John Carlson turnover to put Detroit up 2-0, but the red hot, potentially pierced Zach Sanford brought the Caps within one before the end of forty minutes.

Petr Mrazek then tried to steal the show, making numerous ten-bellers before Daniel Winnik batted home a rebound to tie the game at 2 and send it to overtime.

Zach Sanford has goals in two-straight NHL games after scoring Saturday against Red Wings

After going goalless in his first 20 NHL games, Capitals rookie Zach Sanford is “doing the bull dance, feeling the flow, working it.”

Sanford scored his second NHL goal of his career Saturday against the Detroit Red Wings, sniping a shot past Petr Mrazek.

Capitals at Red Wings pregame: Welcome Back

Good morning, sleepyheads. The bye week is finally over and the Capitals are in Detroit to play the Red Wings. Yes, the Capitals did JUST recently play them and win 6-3, but there will be a couple shake ups this time around.

As the bye week came to a close, the Capitals recalled Zach Sanford and Jakub Vrana from Hershey for some additional reinforcement and to take the place of broken-handed Andre Burakovsky.

On the Red Wings side, the team has only won two of their last 12 games but will hope to capitalize on the fact that the Capitals have been gone for a week and might still have vacation on their brains.

Puck drop is at 2 PM on CSN. Thrilled to be back.
