For anyone who has ever called Mike Green “soft,” the apology line forms to the left.
Late in the third period, after the Caps had a 4-0 lead, Green put an exclamation point on the Caps’ victory over the defending Cup champions by checking Kyle Clifford into the Caps bench.

That was the best Caps game of the season. Straight up. The Capitals took a fantastic foe in the Los Angeles Kings and outplayed them at every step. It was as close to perfect as Caps hockey gets.
Jonathan Quick was solid until Troy Brouwer caught a lovely pass to make it 1-0. Brouwer got his second in the second period, gently tapping a rocket from Mike Green. The top line made the Kings look like statues on a tic-tac-toe sequence capped off by Backstrom. That sent LA into a spiral as Ward shut down a breakout to give Fehr his 16th goal of the season.
And Braden Holtby was perfect for the sixth time this season.
Caps beat Kings 4-0. Best Game. Now we dance.

Alex Ovechkin and Drew Doughty are two of the best and most physically imposing players in the NHL. They’ve been matched up against each other every shift tonight. It’s been a fun battle to watch from home. They seem to be enjoying it too.
Midway through the second period, Doughty knocked Ovechkin over with a cross-check.
Twenty-nine-year-old forward Troy Brouwer is celebrating his 500th career game on Tuesday. No better way to commemorate the milestone than scoring a memorable goal against the defending Stanley Cup Champions.
Plus, this is a good excuse to share the ridiculous signs from the Brouwer Rangers.

That win over Pittsburgh was fun, but it was the only victory the Caps have had in more than two weeks. Tonight won’t be easy either, as the Kings come to town with a Cup on their back and a chip on their shoulder– they’re not happy about their record so far.
In the Caps’ favor, however, are some bold new lines courtesy of Barry Trotz. This could be wild. We shall see at 7 PM on CSN.
