Logan Thompson has turned to another movie for his latest goalie-mask tribute to Washington, D.C. — this time honoring classic characters portrayed by Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Bradley Cooper, Will Ferrell, and others.
The Capitals netminder debuted a “Wedding Crashers“-themed bucket at practice on Thursday, inspired by the 2005 comedy set in Washington and filmed at locations around D.C. and Maryland. The design marks another local pop-culture reference for Thompson, whose masks have frequently doubled as tributes to his adopted hockey home.
Painted by Dave Fried of Fried Designs, the white mask features a mix of Capitals branding — including the team’s wordmark, Weagle, and Capitol Dome logos — along with characters from the movie.
Vince Vaughn’s Jeremy Grey and Owen Wilson’s John Beckwith appear on the right side along with Christopher Walken’s portrayal of U.S. Treasury Secretary William Cleary, while Will Ferrell’s Chazz Reinhold and Keir O’Donnell’s Todd Cleary appear on the backplate. Bradley Cooper’s Sack Lodge and Rachel McAdams’s Claire Cleary appear on the left side.

The “Wedding Crashers” bucket comes several weeks after Thompson showed off another new mask design for this season inspired by the movie “Mars Attacks!” Much of the 1996 cult comedy unfolds in the nation’s capital. For instance, when the invading Martians arrive on Earth, they claim to come in peace before annihilating Congress, storming the White House, and terrorizing the president and his family.
Thompson had previously worn masks with homages to Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and National Treasure, whose plots were based in DC. Last season, he also wore masks that had imagery making fun of Tom Wilson and honoring the Capitals’ defense corps.
