Another pair of brothers is set to join the Washington Capitals organization for the 2026-27 season.
Thursday, the South Carolina Stingrays announced the signings of Luke Prokop and Josh Prokop to ECHL contracts.
Luke, a 24-year-old defenseman, played for the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors last season, posting 11 points (3g, 8a) in 42 games. After playing in the WHL, he turned pro at the end of the 2022-23 season, playing eight games for the ECHL’s Norfolk Admirals. He has also suited up for the Atlanta Gladiators (ECHL) and the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL). Overall, he has 82 games of AHL experience under his belt.
The 2020 third-round pick of the Nashville Predators made history in 2021 when he came out as gay, becoming the first player under contract with an NHL team to do so. On November 17, 2023, Prokop became the first openly gay player in AHL history when he made his debut with the Admirals.
Josh, 26, is a forward returning to North America for his second full season of professional hockey. After spending four years at the University of Alberta, he played seven AHL games for the Bakersfield Condors in 2024-25 before heading to Europe with Denmark’s Herning Blue Fox this past year.
With the Blue Fox, he recorded 36 points (17g, 19a) in 47 regular-season games and added 12 points (7g, 5a) in 14 playoff games during their run to a Danish Championship.
The Prokops become the second set of brothers the Stingrays have inked to contracts this season, joining twins Adam Hall and Justin Hall.
The Capitals also already have Aliaksei Protas and Ilya Protas and Dylan Strome and Matt Strome in the organization.
