The Western Hockey League is honoring Terik Parascak after a couple of sensational playoff games with the Prince George Cougars.
Parascak was named the league’s Player of the Week after he recorded six points (4g, 2a) in two games against the Penticton Vees. Parascak now has 14 points (7g, 7a) in eight playoff games this spring, which ranks second in the WHL behind only his linemate Brock Souch (15).
“Yeah, I mean, it feels good,” Parascak said Monday. “A little bit of a personal accolade there, but the wins are what matters on the road. Just glad that I was able to be part of that.”
Parascak and the Cougars are battling in the second round of the playoffs after eliminating the Spokane Chiefs in a six-game, first-round series. They are up 2-0 over the Vees in their series, with Game 3 set for Tuesday night on home ice.
Parascak finished the WHL regular season 16th in scoring with 79 points (33g, 46a) in 61 games. He was Prince George’s leading scorer, the first time he has led the Cougars in his three seasons with the team.
The 19-year-old winger, who made his AHL debut with the Hershey Bears last spring, is playing his final year of junior hockey. If the Bears qualify for the playoffs and the Cougars are eliminated before Hershey, Parascak will likely join them again this spring.
Parascak, who was ineligible to play in the AHL this season due to the NHL-CHL transfer agreement, is slated to play all of next year with the Bears, unless he makes the Washington Capitals out of training camp.
