Alex Ovechkin made his NHL debut against the Columbus Blue Jackets on October 5, 2005. Nearly 20 years later, a ticket for entry into that game at the Washington Capitals’ MCI Center sold on eBay for $10,500.
The historic ticket was signed by Ovechkin, increasing its value, and was fully authenticated by Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA). The seller had the item listed for $13,995 but accepted the slightly lower best offer price from the buyer on Tuesday.

The individual ticket was assigned for section 109, row F, seat 9, and had a face price of $90 back in 2005.
Ovechkin not only played in his first game that day but also scored his first two NHL goals. The ticket sold just hours before Ovechkin scored his 883rd career goal against the Calgary Flames, moving him 12 goals shy of topping Wayne Gretzky for the NHL’s all-time goals record.
Given Ovechkin’s status as one of the greatest hockey players ever and the history he could soon reach, he has become one of the most sought-out athletes for collectors of sports cards and memorabilia. Items related to his rookie season will draw a premium as evidenced by the ticket and a past $105,780 sale of his rookie patch autograph card.
One of the biggest collectors of Ovechkin-related memorabilia is the man himself. Not only does Ovi make sure to secure signed sticks from his star peers and past legends, but he also regularly brings home assorted sticks, gloves, and jerseys of his own when he scores goals using/wearing them.
