The Washington Capitals will look to send their dads home happy with another victory on their annual mentors’ trip.

After defeating the reigning Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers 4-1, the Capitals will look to assert their dominance against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena. The Capitals will keep forward lines the same from Monday, but will turn to Charlie Lindgren in net.

Per TNT, this is the first game between the Capitals and Lightning that Alex Ovechkin and Steven Stamkos have both not played in since March 27, 2004.

The Capitals-Lightning game is airing on TNT. Puck drop is shortly after 7:30 pm. No Joe B or Locker. And I am not thankful about that.

1st Period

Puck is dropped.

Tom Wilson having words with Brandon Hagel after the Lightning forward loses his edge and slams into Lindgren. Worth noting, Darren Pang called him “Chuckie Sideburns.”

Wilson set up just outside the crease one-times the puck, but Vasilevskiy makes the low pad save.

🥊 Emil Lilleberg vs. Brandon Duhaime. Lilleberg hits Nic Dowd cleanly in the right shoulder as the Caps centerman has his head down at center ice. Brandon Duhaime immediately challenges Lilleberg to a fight and Emil overpowers the Caps’ checking-line forward to the ice.

🚨 1-0 Tampa Bay Lightning. TBL Goal: Brayden Point (13). Assists: J. Guentzel (12). Time: 03:58.

After a bad Dylan Stome turnover at the point, Guentzel gets possession of the puck down the sideboards and finds Point for a semi-breakaway. After Lindgren tries to poke-check the puck away, Point goes forehand-backhand and easily scores.

The Lightning’s mascot, Thunderbug, is sitting in the corner behind the glass in a giant gravy boat lol.

Taylor Raddysh to the box for slashing Guentzel.

TNT shows the suite all the Caps dads are in… and Alex Alexeyev.

Spencer Carbery interviewed by Darren Pang with about 8 minutes to go and he is NOT happy with his team’s play.

🚨 2-0 Tampa Bay Lightning. TBL PPG: Brayden Point (14). Assists: N. Kucherov (21), V. Hedman (15). Time: 12:25.

At intermission: The Lightning lead 2-0. The Capitals are outshooting the Lightning 10 to 8 and out-attempting them 14 to 13 at five-on-five. But there’s not much fight in their game.

Anthony Cirelli blocks a shot off the foot and leaves the game.

The Capitals are alive!

Mangiapane tips a Lars Eller one-timer up and over Vasilevskiy.

🚨 2-2 tie. WSH SHG: Aliaksei Protas (8). Assists: T. Wilson (10). Time: 12:29.

Protas beats Vasilevskiy clean with a wrister to the short side. Wilson made the play happen getting the puck out of the zone and hustling down the right wing despite being held. That’s two goals in 1:58 for the Caps.

🚨 3-2 Tampa Bay Lightning. TBL Goal: Michael Eyssimont (13). Assists: Z. Girgensons (2). Time: 19:16.

Eyssimont takes an exchange from behind the net and beats Lindgren, who was looking the other way, to the post. Tough goal to give up with 43.4 seconds left.

At intermission: The Lightning lead 3-2, but were outscored in the period 2-1. The Capitals are outshooting the Lightning 19 to 17 and out-attempting them 29 to 26 at five-on-five.

Tom Wilson with a nice chance to start the period.

🚨 3-3 tie. WSH Goal: Dylan Strome (7). Assists: T. Raddysh (6), A. Protas (12). Time: 01:37.

Dylan Strome ties it up after some terrible freelance defense by Nikita Kucherov leaves him wide open. Raddysh just laid the puck right onto his blade a on two-on-one for the gimme goal.

🚨 4-3 Tampa Bay Lightning. TBL Goal (Own goal): Brayden Point (15). Unassisted. Time: 07:25.

Own goal: Charlie Lindgren backhands puck into his own net giving Brayden Point bizarre hat trick

Charlie Lindgren scores with his backhand ON HIS OWN GOAL to give Point the hat trick. What the heck. Lindgren then takes the goal puck and shoots it into the crowd.

🚨 4-4 tie. WSH Goal: John Carlson (3). Unassisted. Time: 10:30.

Carlson skates the puck from his own zone, past several Lightning defenders, and beats Vasilevskiy far side.

Per Darren Pang, Dylan Strome lost two bottom teeth after being high-sticked by Anthony Cirelli near the net. Capitals to a four-minute power play. Strome is on the ice to start it.

🚨 5-4 Tampa Bay Lightning. WSH PPG: Tom Wilson (15). Assists: J. Chychrun (6), D. Strome (24). Time: 16:34.

Incredible redirect by Wilson.
