Alex Ovechkin has goals in consecutive games after a second period strike against the Montreal Canadiens, Tuesday.
Taking a smart feed from Dylan Strome, Ovechkin blasted the puck into the yawning net past Habs goaltender Samuel Montembeault.
The goal marked Ovechkin’s 10th goal of the season and only his third at five-on-five.
After lighting the lamp, Ovechkin bent to one knee to celebrate and slammed his shoulder into the corner glass. The goal gave the Caps some life after a listless first period, narrowing the Canadiens’ lead to 3-1.
“I just kind of saw him last second,” Strome said to Monumental Sports Network’s Al Koken during the second intermission. “He’s usually waiting over there in the good areas. I just try to find that guy when he’s open and usually good things happen.”
The tally gives the Capitals’ captain double digits in goals for the 19th straight season, marking every year he’s been in the NHL.

With career goal number 832, Ovechkin is now just 62 goals away from Wayne Gretzky for a share of the NHL’s all-time goals record.
In his career, Ovechkin has terrorized the Canadiens, scoring 38 goals and posting 66 points in 57 games. There’s no other active player in the NHL who has scored more against the Canadiens. It’s the second goal Montembeault has surrendered to Ovechkin in his career. See the full list here.
