Thursday night against the Capitals, Mika Zibanejad became the fifth Swedish born player ever to score five goals in an NHL game.
Zibanejad scored once in the first period, once in the second period, twice in the third period, and the game-winner in overtime. Two of Zibanejad’s goals came on the powerplay where his one-timer is accurate and hard just like Alex Ovechkin’s.
Since the All-Star Break, Zibanejad has scored 20 goals – more than any other NHL player.

After the game, Zibanejad’s teammates mobbed him the locker room and gave him the Broadway hat as the player of the game.

“I feel like I’m speechless right now to be honest with you,” Zibanejad said after the game of his five goals. “The puck followed me. You look at the goals it’s some unbelievable plays that are being made and today I was at the right spot at the right time.”
He added, “It’s a night I’ll remember for a long time. I don’t understand it.”

“So that happened,” Rangers head coach David Quinn said as he began his press conference.
“You’d be hard-pressed to match that,” he added. “He gets the hat trick and he just doesn’t stop. Just sit back, watch him and enjoy it.”
Except if you’re a Capitals fan.
