Ilya Samsonov hops to make unorthodox face-save

Ilya Samsonov is making his 15th career appearance Friday night in Carolina, and it appears he’s starting to get comfortable in his role.

He made 18 saves in the first period, including this one — which appears to have been made with his mask.

Late in the period, Erik Haula won an offensive-zone faceoff, creating a chance for Haydn Fleury. Fleury put the puck on net, forcing Samsonov to make a rather…. unconventional save.

Okay, that’s one way to do it.
