There was a last-minute change to the Washington Capitals lineup in St. Louis Friday.
According to the Capitals’ Mike Vogel, Radko Gudas, who was expected to skate with Christian Djoos, flew home as his significant other is going into labor. Jonas Siegenthaler suited up in Gudas’ place.
There will be a late lineup change for the #Caps tonight. Radko Gudas is trying to catch a flight home, as his wife is going into labor. Jonas Siegenthaler is stepping in. All the best to the Gudas family!

“We couldn’t get him on a flight fast enough,” Todd Reirden said after the game. “He’s already a father of three now. That’s awesome. Happy for him and his [significant other]. I got a text and a picture already!
“It’s pretty awesome to get him back there to be with his family,” Reirden said. “[Players’ families] always supersedes what we’re doing here and that’s special for him that he got back there.”
Gudas and his significant other already have a daughter, Leontynka, who was born in 2015 and a son, Kvido. “Gudas, he has a little boy, and he has so much energy, it’s crazy,” Richard Panik told the Washington Post during Training Camp. Meanwhile, Leontynka is a huge fan of Gritty.
Gudas joins Capitals’ skaters Evgeny Kuznetsov and Dmitry Orlov whose significant others delivered children this summer, with the Oshies, Jensens, Paniks, and Dowds also expecting during the season. Holy moly, that’s a lot of Dad Power on one team!
We’re wishing Gudas and his family all the best.
