Alex Ovechkin is a trend-setter. He’s iconic for his yellow laces, his gap-toothed smile, and his fountain celebration. He also is known for that sensational picture of himself sleeping with the Stanley Cup in his Northern Virginia home.
On Thursday, University of Wisconsin goaltender and NCAA national champion Kristen Campbell paid homage by snapping her own version of Ovechkin’s photo.

These both look like winners to us.
Campbell was MVP of the tournament, winning the 2019 NCAA Frozen Four’s most outstanding player award. She had three consecutive shutouts–facing 69 shots over more than 210 minutes of ice time. She is the first woman to do so in a Division I NCAA tournament.
Campbell’s performance was especially vindicating as she had suffered a tough double-overtime defeat last season that sent the Badgers packing. Campbell transferred to the University of Wisconsin after two years at University of North Dakota, which cut their women’s hockey program without warning in 2017.
“When I went to North Dakota, my goal was to win a national championship,” Campbell said after the Badgers’ win. “I couldn’t thank the coaching staff here enough for taking a risk on me and taking a chance to bring me into this program. As soon as I got that opportunity, I knew that I was going to make the most of it.”
This is the fifth national championship title for the University of Wisconsin women’s team.
