Braden Holtby has a pet tortoise

Liz Anderson of WTOP was at MedStar Capitals Iceplex for the annual canine calendar photoshoot (aka the best day of the year because puppies).

Anderson spoke with Vezina-winning goaltender Braden Holtby about his pets.

You’ll never believe what Holtby owns.

“Some guys foster dogs … They’re great companions. They get people through a lot of things,” Holtby said to Anderson.

Holtby was then asked if his teammates were more cat or dog people.

“Dog people, I’d say,” Holtby said. “Some guys have some cats, too.”

But how about you, Braden? What type of pet do you own?

“[I] have a tortoise, actually,” Holtby said.

What.

Here is a visual approximation.

Things we need to know:

  1. What is the tortoise’s name
  2. Does it go on walks
  3. Does the tortoise have its own fedora yet because if not we will make it one
  4. Can we get a livecam on this tortoise ASAP please
  5. Is Holtby aware that he could have gotten a dog instead of a tortoise because dogs ARE better and that seems like a big missed opportunity

Holtby said the tortoise was new, not yet a year old, so: welcome to the Caps family, tiny tortoise [first name unknown so we’ll go with Bertha] Holtby!
