Mamma Lucia celebrates Alex Ovechkin’s chicken parm addiction with custom ‘Home of the Ovi Special’ t-shirts

Alex Ovechkin is one of the greatest goal-scorers in NHL history, but his eating habits set him apart from almost every other player. Prior to every home game, Ovechkin downs a heavy chicken parmesan dish from Mamma Lucia.

For the playoffs, the local DC Italian chain has taken advantage of this new-found media attention, created custom t-shirts to celebrate their most popular client.

The shirts, worn by the staff at every Mamma Lucia location, say “Home of the Ovi Special” on the front with the restaurant name formatted in the Capitals font. On the back, “GREAT EIGHT” is placed on top of a massive number 8.

“It’s a tradition from day one,” Alex Ovechkin said to ESPN’s Emily Kaplan. “They have the Italian food always when we came to the rink, and it’s very delicious.”

Sure, the DC metro area is with the Caps, but Mamma Lucia is definitely with Ovi in particular.

RMNB is not associated with the Washington Capitals; Monumental Sports, the NHLPA, the NHL, or its properties. Not even a little bit.
