Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is scoring goals like he’s Santa and every day is Christmas. On Tuesday night, Ovechkin scored his 28th goal of the season (in his 32nd regular season game) on a casual backhand.

All of a sudden, Ovi scoring a goal is whatevs. But it shouldn’t be!

Ovechkin now relies on his teammates and his positioning more than he used to, He’s still working towards becoming one of the most complete scorers of our generation.

But that’s not why I’m writing tonight. After taking over the franchise record in power play goals from Peter Bondra last Tuesday, we must now turn our attention to Ovechkin’s next career accomplishment: scoring 400 career goals before the age of 30.

Ovechkin, who scored number 399 tonight, has had the distinction of being the Caps’ second leading goal scorer of all-time for two days now now, after passing Hall of Famer Mike Gartner on Sunday (397).

Ovechkin is already one of the top 90 scorers of all-time (#89) with possibly another decade of hockey still to play.

He now is knocking on the door at 400. Incredible.
