Saturday night, the Washington Capitals traveled to Bridgeport, Connecticut, and played the New York Islanders at Webster Bank Arena. Five minutes into the first period, Marcus Johansson suffered a lower body injury.

From CSN Mid-Atlantic’s replay, Johansson appears to extend his left leg awkwardly. He falls to the ice and grimaces in pain, before getting up and and going down the tunnel to the locker room. Analyst Craig Laughlin called Johansson’s ailment a “shinjury.”
It wasn’t until @myregularface tweeted a GIF from the Isles feed where we saw just how awkwardly Johansson fell.

As Johansson moves off the wall, he gets tied up by Islanders defenseman Ryan Pulock. Then Pulock reaches his right arm out and grabs Johansson’s left leg.
Johansson’s stride gets overextended, he loses balance, and his left ankle bends in a very uncomfortable looking position.
Mojo, along with Caps prospect defenseman Madison Bowey, both left the game with injuries and would not return.

After the game, Caps Head Coach Barry Trotz claimed both players were removed for precautionary reasons.
Trotz said Johansson and Bowey were removed for precautionary reasons, will be reevaluated tomorrow. Said one upper body, one lower body.

Earlier this week, Tom Wilson was removed from a game after absorbing a hit to the head and jaw. The Caps described Wilson’s removal from the game “precautionary” as well. Wilson skated alone Friday before the team’s practice and joined the morning skate today. He was held out of tonight’s game.
