Colorado Avalanche aggressively go for goal on PK, immediately get scored on

The Colorado Avalanche have a bottom-three penalty kill, so when they went a man down early against the Caps they did the obvious thing: they tried to score a shorty.

It did not work, and then the Caps made them pay for it.

Avs defender Tyson Barrie led the attack with a wristshot, but Caps goalie Philipp Grubauer had the answer. Eight seconds later, four white jerseys feasted on Calvin Pickard’s net.

Burakovsky got the puck into the zone then sent a saucer pass across the slot to Evgeny Kuznetsov. Without much challenge, Kuzy dropped it to John Carlson, who — in a shocking, M. Night Shyamalan twist — put the shot on net.

It’s your typical 4-on-2 powerplay rush goal. A good start to a late night.
