TJ Oshie, Andre Burakovsky, and Matt Niskanen score three unanswered goals in second period

If the Washington Capitals are going to win the Metropolitan Division (and totally not play the Penguins in the first round), they must defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets Sunday at Nationwide Arena.

After a dominant second period featuring goals from TJ Oshie, Andre Burakovsky, and Matt Niskanen, the Caps are now one period away from taking a commanding six-point division lead with only four games remaining.

TJ Oshie goal

TJ Oshie struck first, 1:12 into the first period. Oshie took a pass from Nicklas Backstrom and drove hard to the net, scoring on his backhand. It was Oshie’s 33rd goal of the season.

Andre Burakovsky goal

1:44 later, Andre Burakovsky made it 2-0 after hanging out in the slot. Lars Eller found the Burracuda and Burakovsky ripped a wrist shot to the top corner of the net.

Matt Niskanen goal

Matt Niskanen scored on a semi-breakaway after taking a beautiful pass from Burakovsky coming down the wing. The goal gave the Caps three in 8:53.
