‘Broke his ankles’: Petr Sikora scores filthy shorthanded goal, records first multi-goal game of AHL career

Petr Sikora has arguably been the biggest revelation of the Hershey Bears’ 2026-27 season.

The 20-year-old Czech centerman, a Washington Capitals sixth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, recorded the first multi-goal game of his AHL career in Hershey’s 6-1 win over the Springfield Thunderbirds on Saturday. And he did so with extreme skill.

Sikora’s first tally of the night was sensational and came shorthanded.

Petr Sikora’s first goal

In the defensive zone, Sikora ever-so-slightly chipped a Dylan McIlrath lob past Thunderbirds defenseman Marc-André Gaudet, who got caught skating the wrong way. Sikora then skated down on a two-on-one with Bogdan Trineyev. Looking as if he’d pass the entire time down the right wing, Sikora then no-look fired a shot on goal, beating a beleaguered Will Cranley in net.

The tally gave Hershey a 3-0 lead 3:05 into the third period.

“Broke his ankles,” the Bears tweeted on X.

Sikora then added another insurance marker with 1:45 remaining in the game. After Joey Anderson stole the puck along the end boards, he fed Sikora in the left circle, and the rookie forward sent a shot to the top corner short side past Cranley for his second of the night.

Petr Sikora’s second goal

The two goals marked Sikora’s first career multi-goal game with Hershey and his second multi-point game.

Sikora has been a mainstay in the bottom six, centering the Bears’ third line and not looking out of place at all. The prospect has not only provided offense — his five goals are tied for the team lead — but has also brought a physical, hard-nosed presence to Hershey’s lineup every night.

T-5 Lynden Lakovic 3
T-5 Spencer Smallman 3

T-8 Grant Cruikshank 2
T-8 Eriks Mateiko 2

Arguably, his most impressive moment of the season came in mid-October when, after getting slammed into the boards by Billy Sweezey, he dropped his gloves with the Providence Bruins captain. Sikora appeared to win the fight with the 30-year-old veteran, who had fought 29 times previously.

“Yeah, I mean, Siki’s a dog,” Lynden Lakovic said of the bout. “He’s got a lot of heart. And I think he showed that tonight. That’s a veteran guy. He’s not afraid to chuck them, from what I’ve heard. And Siki, that’s his first career fight. He definitely held his own. That’s just his game. He’s hard to play against, gets under guys’ skin. And in the locker room, with stuff you guys don’t see, he’s a great person to have around and a great teammate.”
