Tom Wilson hit 30-goals for a second consecutive season over the weekend. He also was the same game-changing physical presence he always is, notably going viral for some extracurriculars late in the Washington Capitals’ victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday.
Elmer Soderblom, a six-foot-eight, 250-pound forward for the Penguins, tried laying a big hit on Capitals centerman Dylan Strome as Pittsburgh was down 3-0 with approximately a minute remaining.
Wilson really didn’t like this much, so he went after Soderblom along the boards, but did not get much interest back from the Swedish winger on having a discussion. As Wilson was escorted back to the Capitals bench by an official, he mocked Soderblom, and then his chat from there was picked on a TNT hot mic.
“Fight! I will fight!” Wilson screamed at the Penguins’ bench. “I will fight, bunch of p*****s.”
Wilson’s intense chat comes two weeks after Soderblom dropped the gloves with New York Islanders‘ six-foot-four winger Scott Mayfield — a fight between two very lorge men. Soderblom ended up winning the bout after throwing several huge bombs at the end of the tilt.
Wilson’s hot mic moment against the Penguins comes after he went viral in early April during a game he had nothing to do with. Wilson’s name was dropped during an Edmonton Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights‘ altercation, where Connor Murphy chirped Rasmus Andersson.
In March, a national broadcast also picked up Wilson calling a Flyers player a nerd of a certain type, likely Travis Konecny.
Wilson, who is known as one of the game’s best chirpers, also once notably dissed Ryan Reaves in a conversation with Joe Thornton, while the Hockey Hall of Famer was still in his playing days.
