The Washington Capitals will be without key defenseman Jakob Chychrun against the Nashville Predators on Sunday night.
Chychrun will miss out on the second leg of the team’s two-game road trip due to illness. The team announced the news just ahead of the 7 pm puck drop at Bridgestone Arena.
Chychrun comes out of the lineup after playing 20:05 of ice time in the Capitals’ 5-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday. The Blackhawks have been dealing with a flu bug in their locker room, seeing their top two netminders unable to play in the loss.
The absence will be Chychrun’s first from a game this season. He is the team’s leader in average ice time per game this season (23:15), plays the point on the first unit of the club’s power play, and has racked up 32 points (15g, 17a) in 45 appearances thus far.
With Chychrun out of action, the Capitals will dress both Declan Chisholm and Trevor van Riemsdyk. Martin Fehervary will take Chychrun’s spot on a pairing with Matt Roy.

The Capitals will also be without winger Tom Wilson for a fourth straight game as he continues to recover from a lower-body injury.
