Lost in the headlines of Justin Sourdif’s hat trick and five-point game, the game’s greatest goal-scorer broke another nuanced goals record.
With his two goals at Capital One Arena against the Anaheim Ducks, Alex Ovechkin scored the 913th and 914th goals of his career, marking the 349th home game he’s lit the lamp. Per NHL PR, that’s the new NHL record as Ovechkin passed Gordie Howe, who scored in 348 home games he appeared in.
