The Hershey Bears debuted their latest retro jerseys against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday night.
In celebration of the AHL’s 90th anniversary, the Bears wore “1938 Throwbacks” — jerseys inspired by the sweaters Hershey rocked during the 1938-39 campaign. At the time, the AHL was hosting its third season as an organization and was known as the International-American Hockey League. The Hershey Bears had just transferred from the Eastern Amateur Hockey League and finished the season with a 31-18-5 — best in the West Division.
The jerseys feature the city name, Hershey, in a script font, outlined by a thin, dark brown border. Underneath sits the team’s original Bear logo over three spaced-out horizontal dark brown stripes. The shoulders and neck are dark brown.

The Penguins also participated in the throwback jersey night by wearing sweaters from the 2004-05 season.
The Bears are scheduled to wear the vintage sweaters seven more times this season — three at home and four on the road — though all dates are subject to change, per the team. Hershey will first wear the jerseys in front of their home fans at Giant Center on January 10 and 11 against the Cleveland Monsters.
