Alex Ovechkin becomes sixth oldest player in NHL history to score a hat trick

Alex Ovechkin recorded his 33th career hat trick against the Montreal Canadiens, Thursday night.

At 40 years and 64 days old, Oveckin became the sixth-oldest player to score three or more goals, with only Jaromir Jagr, Gordie Howe, Johnny Bucyk, Teemu Selanne, and Nicklas Lidstrom managing the feat at older ages.

Howe managed to record three different hat tricks combined at age 40 and 41 while Johnny Bucyk managed to do so twice at age 40. Nicklas Lidstrom is the oldest defenseman and the oldest player in NHL history to record their first career hat trick, scoring three times in a 5-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues on December 15, 2010.
