The Washington Capitals are without veteran center Nic Dowd against the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night.
Dowd, 35, participated in the team’s morning skate ahead of the game but did not take the ice for warmups. He did not miss a single game for the Capitals last season.
With Dowd out of action, Connor McMichael replaced him on the team’s third line between Brandon Duhaime and Ryan Leonard. Sonny Milano will play in his first game since November 6 in Pittsburgh on the fourth line.

On the season, Dowd has recorded five points (1g, 4a) in 19 games. He is averaging 15:07 of ice time per game, with 2:42 coming shorthanded.
