Alex Ovechkin scores 904th NHL goal, beating Oilers’ Stuart Skinner with a deflection

Alex Ovechkin 904 goals

Alex Ovechkin isn’t lighting the lamp as much with his blistering shot, but just like he has his entire career, he’s adapting and finding other ways to score.

Wednesday, against the Edmonton Oilers, Ovechkin scored the 904th NHL goal of his career by deflecting a Jakob Chychrun shot past Stuart Skinner from the slot.

The goal gave the Capitals a 2-0 lead 6:04 into the first period.

After scoring just three goals in his first 15 games to start the season, Ovi has found paydirt in three straight and in four of the last five.

Ovechkin has seven tallies overall on the season, averaging 0.35 goals per game. If he continues on this pace, he will score 29 goals by season’s end.

With the tally at Capital One Arena, Ovi tied Gordie Howe for the most goals (regular season and playoffs) at a single venue with 480. He also extended his record for the most goals in a single venue (regular season only) to 443.

Ovechkin has recorded nine points (5g, 4a) in the Capitals’ last eight games, which leads the team in that span.
