TJ Oshie is set to make a “special announcement” at the Washington Harbour in Georgetown on June 9, the seven-year anniversary of when the Capitals swam in the fountains there after winning the 2018 Stanley Cup.

The Capitals announced on Wednesday morning that the event is free and open to the public, and will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Oshie is scheduled to speak to the audience at 5:30 pm, followed by a Q&A session with Monumental Sports Network’s Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin.

Oshie spent the entire 2024-25 season on long-term injured reserve due to a lingering back issue. His contract with the Capitals expires this summer, and he recently made his TV analyst debut on ESPN’s coverage of the Western Conference Finals.

After the end of the 2023-24 campaign, Oshie stated that he would step away from hockey if he couldn’t find “an answer and a fix” to his recurring back problems. Oshie missed 92 games due to injury over the last three seasons that he played, suiting up in 154 of 246 possible games.

Despite not appearing in a game this past year, Oshie still made his presence felt around the Capitals, making appearances at several practices and participating in many of the Caps 50 Fest celebrations. He was also at Capital One Arena when Alex Ovechkin tied Wayne Gretzky’s goals record and was on Long Island when Ovi set the new top mark.

Oshie was just at Washington Harbour this past February, when he and Nicklas Backstrom helped unveil a permanent plaque commemorating the 2018 fountain celebration.
