Hockey fans will now have a new way to follow Alex Ovechkin’s chase of Wayne Gretzky’s NHL goals record down the final stretch of the season.
ESPN announced on Thursday that they are producing a new alternative broadcast entitled “OviCast.” The altcast, airing exclusively on ESPN+, will feature an isolated camera trained on Ovechkin alongside a live feed of the game. Record-breaking information, along with Ovi’s game stats, will sit below.

“OviCast” will air on ESPN+ during the five remaining ESPN-produced Washington Capitals games of the season, beginning tonight against the Minnesota Wild. Puck drop for the game is at 7:30 pm.

Ovechkin enters tonight’s game against Minnesota with 889 career goals, six away from breaking the NHL goals record. Ovi has scored 15 goals in 13 career visits to the Wild’s Xcel Energy Center — the highest rate of any arena he’s played at more than once — and 20 goals in 24 career games against the Wild.
