The Washington Capitals will be without one of their best players against the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night.

Less than hour before puck drop, the Capitals announced that Tom Wilson would miss the game due to illness.

Jakub Vrana took warmups and will replace Wilson in the lineup. It will mark the first game the Czech forward has played since January 6.

Tonight’s matchup against the Blues is the first Wilson has sat out this season. The physical right wing did not miss any games in December after taking a Jakob Chychrun shot to the face.

Wilson’s presence will be missed. He plays in all situations (both even strength, the power play, and penalty kill) and averages 18:46 of ice time — the most of his career. Wilson is on pace to register his first 30-goal season in the NHL, sitting second on the team in goals with 26.

RMNB is not associated with the Washington Capitals; Monumental Sports, the NHLPA, the NHL, or its properties. Not even a little bit.
