Alex Ovechkin scores career goal number 883 against Flames’ Dan Vladar, now 12 away from NHL goals record

Ageless wonder Alex Ovechkin has goals in consecutive games after finding paydirt against the Calgary Flames, Tuesday.

Ovechkin scored on a Capitals’ power play 4:52 into the third period to narrow the Flames’ lead to 2-1. After taking a short pass from John Carlson, Ovechkin fired a one-timer low from the left circle, catching Flames goaltender Dan Vladar by surprise.

The goal marked Ovechkin’s 883rd career tally bringing him to with 12 of the NHL’s all-time goals record.

Ovechkin is now on pace and to tie the record on April 1 in Boston and break the record on April 2 against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The lamp lighter gave Ovechkin 30 goals on the season, marking the Capitals captain’s 19th 30-goal season. Ovi has not hit 30 goals in only one season of his 20-year career, the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 campaign where he scored 24 goals in 45 games.

Ovi’s tally against the Flames marked his third career goal against Vladar, goaltender no. 148 on his goals list.
