Ryan Leonard scores 25th goal and records three points in Boston College’s bounce-back win against Massachusetts

Ryan Leonard led the way for no.1 ranked Boston College to snap their season-long two-game losing streak against no. 16 ranked Massachusetts, Saturday night. The 20-year-old winger led the Eagles in scoring with three points (1g, 2a) in their 4-1 victory.

Leonard started his night with an assist on the eventual game-winning goal by Andre Gasseau at the 3:13 mark of the second period. Gabe Perreault took a feed from Leonard, who received a massive hit to make the play and fed Gasseau at the back post for a tap-in.

The Washington Capitals prospect stayed with his playmaking ways as he found James Hagens with a pretty backhand feed for a goal at the 6:42 mark of the second frame.

Leonard then potted his NCAA-leading 25th goal into an empty net with 1:40 remaining in regulation. He recorded three total shots on goal in the win and two minor penalties, one for cross-checking and the other for embellishment.

Eagles head coach Greg Brown put Leonard back on the team’s top line with Perreault and Gasseau despite their general ineffectiveness as a trio in Friday night’s loss.

Boston College’s next game comes against the Vermont Catamounts on Friday night. Leonard had four points (2g, 2a) in two games against Vermont last year.
